Description

Single Malt Scotch Whisky Ledaig

Ledaig whisky is the powerful peaty expression of the Tobermory distillery. This spirit rested 13 years in an ex-bourbon cask and the result is a perfect balance between peat and saltiness.

Tobermory Distillery – Short Story

Located in the heart of the capital of the Isle of Mull, the Tobermory Distillery, founded in 1798, is the island’s only original distillery and one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.

Mishnish Loch is the distillery’s water source. The river Tobermory carries water to the distillery. Peat phenols are present in the water, giving the whisky a slightly phenolic character. Tobermory uses an old cast iron mash tun with a capacity of 5 tonnes.

Fermentation takes place over a period of 50 to 90 hours in four Oregon pine wash backs, which have a total capacity of 92,000 litres. The Tobermory Distillery uses two pairs of stills. The two wash stills have a capacity of about 18,000 litres each; the spirit stills are only slightly smaller, with a capacity of about 16,000 litres.

The peat whisky produced by Tobermory is bottled under the name of Ledaig, a “smoky” expression of the distillery’s production. Aged 13 years in an ex-bourbon cask, it was selected by Cuspid Spirits for its balanced strength between peat and salinity.
